Typecho is an open source cross-platform blogging program developed by a Chinese team. It is built on PHP5 and supports multiple operating systems (Linux, Unix, BSD, Windows), servers (Apache, Lighttpd, IIS, Nginx) and databases (Mysql, PostgreSQL, SQLite). There is also support for the Sina App Engine version.

I’ve been trying typecho since I started using wordpress and I find it really fast and more visible to manage. However, compared to wordpress it can take some skill and is not suitable for a beginner to start building a website for the first time. Some of the plugins that you need to install yourself need to be uploaded to the backend of the server and enabled, and the themes need to be selected and uploaded by yourself. It is a bit more complicated to configure than wordpress, but this also means that it is easier to customise.
